About ERIK
I was born in Winchendon, MA and currently live in Lunenburg, MA with my wife Gail and two kids – Vinny and Lyla. I played a wide variety of sports as a child. I swam competitively at my local YMCA through elementary school. I genuinely enjoyed the process of setting goals and tying to beat my best times in each event. As I entered middle school, I found my love for basketball and played throughout high school and at Babson College. I also ran for my high school cross country team and qualified for states my junior and senior year.
After college, I enjoyed a change of pace from traditional sports, and really enjoyed mountain biking, which led me to enter a number of Adventure Races with 2 friends. This was my first taste of true endurance sports and I loved the challenge! In 2010, a friend asked me to train with him for our first triathlon and from then on I have been hooked. That first race was a sprint and I was really nervous. As soon as I was done, I was driven to train because I knew I could be faster. I gradually progressed to Olympic Distances, Half Ironmans and then my first Ironman in 2012. I really enjoy the process of training, racing and finding a way to be more efficient and faster. I have learned so much and have enjoyed sharing my knowledge with our small Tri Club in Lunenburg. During this time, my wife also got the “triathlon bug”, but had a fear of water. We worked together in the pool and progressed to open water where she is now very comfortable. This process was helpful for me to be able to understand how to help those people who may not be confident in the water. All of this has led up to me becoming a Triathlon coach and share my passion for sport, competition and personal improvement. Over the past few years, I feel I have come to understand the balance of being a parent of young kids, a husband, a teacher, a coach, and a triathlete. I look forward to helping you learn, train, and race and accomplishing your goals!
