Trent's 2014 IM Mont Tremblant Pre Race Report

Pre-Race: Felt good on Saturday before the race. Big breakfast amp; waffles! Eggs, bacon hash browns. Turkey sub for lunch and pretzels and fig newtons for the rest of the day. Lots of sports drink throughout the day. By 2:00 PM dropped off the bike and kept off my feet until dinner. Chicken and pasta for dinner, went to bed at 9:00 PM.

Race-Day: Woke up at 3:30 and ate my morning nutrition. Headed down to transition at 5:30 (on the cabriole!) Race nutrition put on the bike, pumped up the tires and did a little warm-up swim, in between going to the toilet about 5 times.

Swim: Started in the front of my wave 2/3rds of the way to the left of the buoys. Beginning of swim was pretty uneventful until hitting the first turn, got a little wedged in and had to get through many slower swimmers in front of me. Took the second turn a little farther out big improvement. Kicked it in gear on the way back fighting a light current. Time 1:04:28

T1: Love coming into T1 and encountering not too many people, helped that I was in the second wave to go off. Felt strong in the long run to the tent from the lake. Time 4:18

Bike: Heart rate a little high to start off going down Monte Ryan, was able to get it down a bit going out on 117. Headwind going out so took the power a little higher at about 185-190 watts here. Heading back into town on 117 moving fast with a power at 175 watts. Enjoyed the crowds in St Jovite, back into Monte Ryan and then up the hills to the casino 190 watts here. On the way back was moving pretty fast and resting up a little. Second loop pretty similar to the first but it started to drizzle, didnt affect speed except on the two 180 degree turns on 117 and st jovite. Felt great on the hills to the casino, took it easy going back. Time 5:22:35

T2: Again, not too many people in transition so got some help from volunteers. Time 1:58

Run: Decided to be pretty conservative for the first 6 miles and took it at an 8:15 pace. After 6 miles felt very good and got down to 7:50 to 8:00 pace. Felt great on the hills on the second loop flat section was tough here, just kept my head down and pushed through, knocking out the cliff blocks every mile. Heading back into town the crowds got my spirits back up and I pushed ahead love the slightly downhill finish!! Time 3:32:14

Total Time: 10:05:33

Happy with the time and very motivated for next year!!
