About Trent
I grew up in Barnstable, MA, on Cape Cod where my time was spent primarily focused on sailing and music. My athletic career didn’t begin until I was attending graduate school at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (age 22) where I entered my first ever race, a 12 mile trail run with over 4,000 feet of climbing! After recovering from that race (which took about a week) I knew I was hooked on long distance sport. Later that summer I competed in my first triathlon. Like many first timers, I began in the middle of the swim pack (big mistake), rode on a mountain bike (amazed at how fast the competitive bikers passed me), and took about 10 minutes in transition (my feet were wet).
Over the next few years I continued to compete in triathlon but didn’t have a plan or much of an idea how to improve. In the summer of 2009 I hired a private coach and really began training seriously. In 2010 I competed in my first Ironman at the now infamous Ironman St. George in Utah and had the best experience of my life. Through my Ironman training over the past five years and my previous experience in the sport, I have gained both the knowledge and appreciation for triathlon from some of the best coaches and triathletes in the country.
I now reside part time in Merrimack, NH, and (slightly warmer) Wilmington, NC. I’m excited to pursue my coaching passion as part of Peak Triathlon Coaching. Like Colin, I am interested in triathlon and sport as a lifestyle that promotes health, focus, and competition, while keeping a productive family, work, and social life. As a competitive age group athlete, I continue to develop and practice the most innovative and proven training philosophies in the sport. My latest educational development includes receiving my IRONMAN coaching certification, ACSM personal trainer certification, and AFPA sports, nutrition, and wellness nutrition certification. If you’re looking to compete in your first triathlon or bring your performance to the next level, Peak Triathlon Coaching is for you!
