Personalized Training Plan

“The Plan” is a training plan specifically designed for YOU.  We will create a plan that fits best into your schedule and provide all the details of each workout.  The plan length will vary depending on the distance of the race you are doing and what your goals are for the race will be determined through some questionnaires and a consultation. This option is geared towards athletes that want a customized plan, but don’t feel the need to have someone looking over their shoulder throughout, reviewing their workouts, or developing race strategies for their races:

  • Extensive evaluation to develop the right plan for YOU
  • Review of previous training, results, and determining strengths & weaknesses
  • Detailed Training plan made specifically for you including:
    • Detailed description of all workouts
    • Tests to reassess training zones and fitness levels throughout the plan
  • TrainingPeaks.com account to log workouts

Full Coaching Services

The “Full Coaching” option will provide you with everything you need in preparation for your race.  This includes the training plan and unlimited communication with your coach.   Whether you have questions about a workout, need to adjust the plan to fit in a change in your normal schedule, have a question about nutrition during training, or any other issues you may have, your PTC coach will be there for you.  We will provide you with all the tools, both physically and mentally, to achieve your race goals.  Here are the details of everything included in this package:

  • Extensive evaluation of lifestyle and daily habits to develop the right plan for you
  • Review of previous training, results, and determining strengths & weaknesses
  • Determination of realistic goals and how to achieve them

Private and Group Lessons

Private Swim Lessons
Join Coach Colin at the Y or at your pool for a private swim lesson.  Colin has worked with many swimmers/triathletes over the years and has had tremendous success in improving their efficiency in the water.  Lessons include video recordings to assist in your development.  Lessons are $70/hr for non PTC athletes or $35/hr for PTC athletes.

Group Lessons
PTC Coaches are available for group private lessons as well.  We offer lessons for swimming, biking, running, and strength group training.  Please call or email for pricing.

Testing Services

Bike Test and Analysis Bike
Come to the PTC training center for a bike test and spin stroke analysis.  The test will include the actual test on a CompuTrainer and a determination of your heart rate and/or power training zones.  We will also have you spend some time in the spin scan mode to evaluate and assist you with improving your cycling stroke. A Bike Tests/Analysis session with training zone determination is $100 for non PTC athletes or $50 to PTC athletes.

Run Gate Analysis Run
Come to the PTC training center for a run gate analysis.  Proper running form is critical to getting faster and more importantly, injury prevention.  A video analysis of your run form will help us to improve your run form.  Run Gate Analysis is $90 for non PTC athletes or $45 for PTC athletes.

Lactate Profile Bike • Run
We determine your lactate profile and lactate threshold by taking pin-prick sized blood samples while you ride your bike on our ergometer or run on our treadmill. You will be provided with a lactate concentration and heart rate versus cycling power or running pace graph which can be used to monitor changes in fitness between test sessions. We will also provide power or pace and heart rate training zones based on your results. $150 for non PTC athletes or $110 to PTC athletes

Gas Exchange Profile Bike • Run
Your gas exchange parameters (oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production) are monitored with our metabolic cart while you ride your bike on our ergometer or run on our treadmill. We will provide a graph of gas exchange versus cycling power or running pace, as well as indication of gas exchange threshold and peak oxygen consumption. Cycling power or running pace and heart rate training zones will also be provided. $150 for non PTC athletes or $110 to PTC athletes

VO2max Bike • Run
Following a true VO2max protocol, you will ride your bike on our ergometer or run on our treadmill until VO2max parameters are met. We will provide you with your VO2max numbers (absolute and relative). This test is typically used as a comparison or benchmark test between athletes. $100 for non PTC athletes or $75 to PTC athletes

Twenty-minute Cycling Time Trial Bike
Using your bike and our ergometer, we guide you through the “Functional Threshold Power” test protocol as described on page 47 of Training and Racing with a Power Meter 2nd. edition (authors Hunter Allen and Andrew Coggan, PhD). We will provide you with power and heart rate training zones. $55 for non PTC athletes or $40 to PTC athletes

Three-minute All-out Cycling Test Cycling
Suffer through the most grueling three minutes of your life and leave with an estimate of your threshold and VO2max powers. Power based training zones will also be provided. Note: This is an intense test and requires extreme effort! Most people need at least one practice session before valid data is obtained. We’ll be able to tell how you performed and will allow a free retest within two weeks of your first attempt. $35 for non PTC athletes or $25 to PTC athletes

Ventilatory Threshold Bike • Run
Ventilatory threshold is determined by monitoring your breathing while riding your bike on our ergometer or running on our treadmill. This cost effective test provides a reasonable gauge of fitness and will provide ballpark estimates for cycling power or running pace and heart rate training zones. $55 for non PTC athletes or $40 to PTC athletes

Economy Bike • Run
We monitor your gas exchange parameters (oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production) with our metabolic cart while you ride your bike on our ergometer or run on our treadmill at multiple sub-maximal efforts. Oxygen consumption versus cycling power or running pace is used as a measure of economy. Cyclists use this to compare the impact of different riding positions (e.g. road bike vs. time trial), while runners track changes in form, stride, etc. Long course triathletes may be interested in calorie consumption and energy source (carbohydrates vs. fats) at different effort levels. $100 for non PTC athletes or $75 to PTC athletes

Resting Metabolic Rate General Fitness
We monitor your oxygen consumption in a relaxed state to determine how many calories you burn at rest. $75 for non PTC athletes or $55 to PTC athletes

Body Composition General Fitness
Using skin fold calipers, measurements are taken at multiple body sites and body fat percentage is calculated. $35 for non PTC athletes or $25 to PTC athletes

Resting Metabolic Rate plus Body Composition General Fitness
Both tests in one visit. $100 for non PTC athletes or $75 to PTC athletes
